ABOUT COLLAJoshua Wentz + Brandi Pierce

Sound Sessions Brandi Pierce
Brandi Pierce is a full time creative and runs her own design firm, aShadow, in Seattle, Washington. Brandi has always been in love with music. As a teen she was classically trained in opera. However, eventually her love leaned more towards rock, r&b, ambient, techno and trance. COLLA has given her a chance to co-create something unique based around life experiences on one's road to bliss. When she's not recording, Brandi enjoys working on design projects, honing her photography skills, and catching up with good friends. Admittedly, she is also addicted to Facebook.

Joshua Wentz
Joshua Wentz is an architecturally trained graphic designer who calls Chicago home. He has always enjoyed music, and for the past fourteen years has slowly worked toward making original composition and performance a major part of his life. Joshua is an advocate of artistic collaboration, having created and participated in several group music projects in the past. When not holed up in his studio, he performs around the Midwest in the retro-electro-rock band Absinthe & The Dirty Floors, runs a boutique record label called Sidedown Audio that releases limited edition albums by solo home-recording artists, and publishes zines and books under the imprint Blindsided Books.

See (Original Version) by COLLA

Oh, my love, I should have seen it
All my life I’ve been alone
It was right there in front of me
All along

Oh, my love, I should have realized
A heart like this was bound to break
All this time I’ve been pretending
One after another mistake

Oh, my love, why wasn’t it easy?
Those childhood promises fall away
So much could have been done to save me
But I threw it all away

So foolish, so scared
Clinging to ghosts, despair
Darkness settled in
And I couldn’t see

I couldn’t see
Oh, my love Oh, my love I couldn’t see

See (Coldberg's Papercut Mix) by Coldberg

Sound Sessions vol 1Aleksandras Ševčenko a.k.a. Coldberg, was born in Ukraine and raised in Klaipėda, Lithuania. Coldberg did not have much of a formal education in music at an early age like many producers and djs do, but he developed an acute appreciation for music by listening avidly to a wide variety of music. Singing in a school choir and attending school discos, he frealized he wanted to get up on that stage, behind the decks. Keeping his dream in a deep corner of his mind for a long time, it was not until 2007, at the age of 20, that Coldberg decided it was time to start living that dream. Borrowing some equipment from his boss, who was involved in the club business, Coldberg taught himself beatmatching & mixing, hacking away at the decks and mixer and perfecting his art slowly but surely. After achieving skill and confidence, Coldberg started organizing his own small private parties, and in 2008 he realized that he wasn’t going to get far without learning to produce his own music. In 2009 he produced his first full track, and was discovered by Repton. Putting Coldberg’s melodies and Repton’s techno sounds together create energetic progressive tech tracks. Working alongside Repton earned him a debut release “Summer Mist” on the Aquasound label, proving Coldberg to be a capable and fresh addition to the rank of Liquid Inc.

See (Lea+Enrôl Yon Automatic Version) by Lea+Enrôl Yon

Sound Sessions vol 1Lea and Enrôl are proud to be chameleons. Rarely do two tracks from the Norwegian duo sound similar; their practice is to destroy everything they have made previously before beginning something new. Creating music can often involve only digital instruments, or perhaps only a ukulele filtered through a series of guitar pedals... perhaps a combination of analog and digital instruments, or perhaps no instruments at all. Says Lea of their compositional strategy, "There is something both ominous and serene about a tabula rasa, leaving everything behind without concern, stepping forward without knowing where to go. We try to not over-think a project, but we try to allow vague memories and daydreams to creep into each song." L+E Yon have yet to release a full album, flitting in and out of public group projects such as The Very Us Artists, but it is their hope to change that in 2011. "Our methods don't breed consistency, so putting an album together feels like a daunting task. If we find the right point of view, it will happen."
